Osprey are nesting on a snag just south of the Crystal lake cemetery in south Corvallis.  Many people both residents and neighbors have been watching them over the last few months.

We think they mated mid April. Incubation is around 35 days so hatch would be mid to late May.

We think they have at least one chick.

Does this head look like a 6 week old chick?  Or is this one of the adults. Cornell’s birds of the world only has two chick photos and those are of chicks noticeably smaller than the adults feeding them.

This snag is 70 feet high so the angle is not good for observing. Hence the uncertainty.

We also have seen three adults present or around this nest this year and last year.

This looks like an adult to me.  Young Ospreys usually have heavy streaking on top of the head, along with a brownish tinge on the white areas on
the face and neck.  The ragged crest that adults have isn't as well-developed in older nestlings.  The dark brown feathers of the back and wings have
whitish edges in nestlings, giving them an obvious "scaled" look.  This bird appears to have yellow eyes, but the eyes of young Ospreys are orange.

Here's a good photo of a 6-week-old Osprey showing the field marks: https://www.flickr.com/photos/-jon-/47043636032/in/photostream/
