Our first returning Yellow-rumped Warbler was on the suet this morning.
We've figured out that 4 of the five fawns born in the neighborhood this year are males. That's a lot of little antler nubs! The fifth, from 3-year old Found, is still a mystery as we've only glimpsed it from a distance a couple of times - including yesterday. Found tends to be very shy and cautious since her twin brother Lost and older brother BD took out together. Boss Mom, the mother of all three, has always been somewhat nonchalant with her fawns, and left Lost and Found in her older son, BD's, care most of the time after weaning. He was a very attentive babysitter. Found hasn't bonded with the other females very well since her two male companions left and is seldom with them. We're keeping an eye out for BD and Lost as this is the time of year they begin to get interested in the females again.
The photo is of Shy's twins. We're calling them Bert & Ernie. Bert is noticeably larger than Ernie. We hope to be able to tell them apart, for a while at least.
