While returning home along Hwy 99W from the Newberg area today, I detoured by way of Livermore Road to check for open-country birds that might have arrived in our area recently.
A light-phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was hover-hunting in the rain over one of the grass fields. Farther south I saw a PEREGRINE FALCON flying east, on a mission. In between I also saw good numbers of SAVANNAH SPARROWS, a few PIPITS, three HORNED LARKS, and a small flock of WESTERN MEADOWLARKS.
