Elk at Jackson-Frazier

Hello,

Yesterday we saw some elk at Jackson-Frazier wetland. The photos aren't very good because they were far from us but it was fun to see them. We first spotted two elk on the west side of the wet prairie while they were entering the forest. About ten minutes later we spotted two on the other side of that forest patch in an adjacent field.

We've seen the elk at Jackson-Frazier on occasion in recent years as well as on the nearby hillside next to Owen's Farm. In October we heard an elk bugle from a field next to Jackson-Frazier. It was nighttime and we could barely see a few elk in the field.

Otherwise at Jackson-Frazier we heard a few Virginia Rails calling near the north side of the boardwalk. A Northern Harrier flew by the area where we saw the elk. Nearby at Cheldelin Middle School, we saw a Red-shouldered Hawk and Red-tailed Hawk. Across Conifer Blvd. at Village Green Park we watched a pair of American Kestrels and a Black Phoebe hunting from the fence at the baseball fields. We heard another Black Phoebe from the nearby railroad tracks.
