Opossum carries leaves with its tail!

Hello,

Stephanie Hazen in the Salem area sent this to me. She captured a Virginia Opossum on her trail cam carrying leaves with its tail. I think Opossums are smarter than they're often given credit for.

Ha! So that’s how they get a cubic meter of dry leaves stuffed into the insulation under houses! Cozy nest but pretty stinky. 😃

That is super cool!

I also read an article on opossums in Missouri Conservationist magazine. Apparently, they groom themselves and if they find ticks, they eat them. Pretty weird, but cool!
