Can anyone id this large moth (see coin in photo for size reference).  This was actually found in Port Orford, Oregon - not in the mid-Valley -- but I am hoping someone can id it anyway.  Thanks in advance.large moth.jpg

I am guessing it might be  Pachysphinx occidentalis - Western Poplar Sphinx....

Kind of hard to tell as most photos show wings spread.

These are really cool to find!  This is Polyphemus moth, and the clear eyespot on the hind wing is unique.

The upper surface of the wings is really spectacular, and they are more colorful than many butterflies.
