Hi everyone,

Please can I ask you all to pass on this request to everyone in your groups ASAP.

An actor (both ideal and keen on the role) had to pull out for health reasons literally one hour before our first rehearsal last week. So I need to replace him at this still very early stage.

It's a good fun role, not too large or too small,  with some funny lines and actions and three separate characterisations. Two are in a play within the play, so it's great for showing off your range.

(If there's a couple who would like to act together there is also a potential role available for a woman.)

Harrison is an older Shakespearian type old-school actor  - quite a  "luvvie".
Fond of the bottle as well the bard he is also keen to recount tales of his life in the theatre and dropping famous names along the way, (Larry, Ralph, Johnny ...)
As well as his own voice he plays a foreigner with a (bad) foreign (Greek) type accent and with "an Evil Laugh"
He also has a big speech as Inspector Delver,  in a third "typical copper" persona.
While the character is 60+ somebody younger could easily age up.

Murder In Play is written by Simon Brett (acclaimed mystery author of the Charles Paris novels as played by Bill Nighy - who would be ideal but is not available to play Harrison)

A classic “Whodunit”, structured as a play within a play, Murder In Play was written in 1993 but as well as being popular with amateur societies it was toured professionally as recently as 2013.

As in Brett’s novels, Murder in Play, provides us with a cast of likely suspects while also poking fun at them. In this case a small theatre companycomplete with tyrannical director, luvvies with a past, egos bigger than talent, and a long suffering stage manager…

(Who in community theatre hasn’t wanted to kill one or more of those people!!)

The play has great laughs in a clever ensemble mystery that is is also comedy, but not a full-on farce.

We rehearse Tue and Thu evenings (but that could be flexible for the right person)
Show dates are Wed 21st to Sat 24th May,
