Ditchling Players need two supporting roles (1M, 1F) for their November production of Cranford, by Martyn Coleman & Elizabeth Gaskell.

MISS BARKER - a medium supporting role as a fun but slightly pompous social climber and gossip. Why not embrace your Inner Hyacinth Bucket!
A retired milliner with social aspirations. Pompous, competitive, but not without charm.
One of Cranford’s “over-thirty-five” ladies, she takes great pride in her storytelling, hosting, and local gossip.
Accent: Well spoken
A great part for someone wanting to play a role that will get a lot of warm laughs.
Stage Age: Flexible
Miss Barker has about 90 lines.

JEM HEARN - a minor supporting role for a younger male actor, playing strong and silent in a romantic pairing
A quiet, kind-hearted labourer from the working class.
Appears from Act 2 onwards and is deeply devoted to Martha, the housemaid. A man of few words but much warmth.
Ideally uses a Northern Accent (e.g. Lancashire/Yorkshire) - but don't let that put you off.
Stage Age: 20s–30s
Jem has about 20 lines.

Ditchling are accepting self-taped submissions.
