Hi Everyone,
I would like feedback from people on whether we should
- Make the group messages readable by anyone on the web. (at groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/mid-sussex-drama )
- Perhaps also allow anyone to join up automatically
- Or create a new group for show ticket sales announcements only - and keep this one for Help and Advice etc.
Or indeed any other option!
- Please just reply and say what you would prefer - unless there's a very quick and clear consensus I'll give it a couple of weeks and then summarise.
My own thoughts are that:
We should open it to anyone to read messages on the web (yes to 1)
but for the moment still require people to sign up before letting people get emails or post.. (so not 2 ).
I don't think there's enough traffic to make a separate list worthwhile -
but perhaps a group called Mid Sussex Amateur Show Announcements would be better - but preferably not such a mouthful. (don't care on 3)
NB: re privacy: the sending email is not visible to public browsing on the web, and if requested I will delete any old emails where youy may have listed contact details in the message itself before we change anything.
Here's a summary of how we got here:
The original idea for this group was to work a kind of behind the scenes (no pun intended) forum for both passing on publicity and requests for help between active people as at many local(ish) societies as possible.
- Email seemed the lowest common solution - and although more people are using facebook these days it's not universally used (or trusted) and apart from new joiners the current system runs itself.
- I think it's been a limited sucess, but by keeping the forum private we prevent people jusy browsing - and the main aim was to get our message out
- Also newsletter space and getting details at the right time or in the right format for passing on has I think limited the impact of the publicity sharing
- Although that's still the cheapest publicity we can all get apart from word of mouth!
- And I still hear about some shows nearby too late to go to, nevermind in time to publicise further.
- Hence this suggestion to cut out the middle-man and allow the public to read our announceements here directly if they wish
But it should stay focused on local amateur theatre - and carry on enabling what it was intended to do.
- It's tough to attract people away from work, TV and online activities, but people who have seen one show may well consider seeing another on another day or in another week.
- It's not a competion for the same people at the same time, and more people seeing amateur shows is good for us all.
- We all have some loyal audience members who come to local shows for local people, but as most of us know there are great opportunities to see something new (or an old favourite) very close to home and at a very reasonable price.
- Plus we can get to relax as part of the audience, see how our performances compare with each other too!
Hope this all makes sense, please do let me know what you think,
Break a leg!
kr's
Paul
