HAODS presents – ‘Follies’
Join us for a glorious evening of glitz and glamour at a reunion like no other!
HAODS welcomes you to the wonderful world of the Weismann Theatre. Join us for an evening of fabulous big band numbers and glorious dance routines as we delve into the past remembrances of this iconic cast.
Its 1971, 30 years after the last performance of the Follies Girls and a reunion like no other is taking place. The glamourous icons of the roaring 20’s, breath taking tap dancers of the 30’s and haunting harmony singers of the 40’s reunite for one last time before the Weismann Theatre is torn down. They laugh, cry, boast and reminisce the evening away, haunted by their younger selves as they perform the song and dance numbers from the pinnacle of their fame.
Follies focuses on four main characters Sally and Phyllis, Follies girls of the 40’s and their husbands, Buddy and Ben, two boys who lingered outside the stage door for their loves. However, things are not always as they seem and in this drunken atmosphere of bitter-sweet nostalgia the past may just be too much to bear for this quadrangle of friends and lovers.
This fabulous show has had a hit run at the National Theatre, written by James Goldman with music and Lyrics from Stephen Sondheim it uses clever staging and younger versions of the characters to portray their past lives and loves.
This is also the very last show to be rehearsed at our Broadbridge Heath leisure center home, where HAODS has been for the past 20 years, before it too is torn down.
‘Follies’ opens at The Capitol, Horsham from Tuesday 6th until Saturday 10th November with performances Tuesday – Friday evenings at 7:30pm, a Saturday matinee at 2:00pm and Saturday evening at 7:00pm.
