Hello
Following our audition on Monday we’re almost complete! We’ve got a fantastic cast full of friendly, familiar faces, and this is already shaping up to be a warm, witty, and truly special production.
✨ Directed by Robert Tremayne for the Ditchling Players, this charming adaptation of Cranford by Martyn Coleman is full of heart, humour, and classic storytelling. Now we just need two final performers to complete the company:
🌿 MISS BARKER
A retired milliner with social aspirations. Pompous, competitive (especially with Miss Pole), but not without charm. One of Cranford’s “over-thirty-five” ladies, she takes great pride in her storytelling, hosting, and local gossip.
Stage Age: Flexible
Accent: Well spoken
Great comic instincts welcome.
🪓 JEM HEARN
A quiet, kind-hearted labourer from the working class. Appears from Act 2 onwards and is deeply devoted to Martha, the housemaid. A man of few words but much warmth.
Stage Age: 20s–30s
Accent: Northern (Lancashire/Yorkshire)
Also supports scene changes in Act 1.
