Spam advertisers seem to have discovered our dormant group. Anything we can/should do about it? I think we can change the settings to require admin permission before getting rights to post — but I can’t remember who has that settings control.

Dear Dave,

Yes; they've discovered Rockville Ultimate as well, but the default does not allow posting by any member.  So almost every day I delete a spam message which is waiting for approval, then find the member who posted (always someone who just joined) and ban them from the group.  What I did yesterday, as that process is distracting, is require approval when a new member asks to join.

Basically there are four layers of defense in Google Groups:

  1. Approval for messages.
  2. Approval for new members.
  3. Make the group invite only.
  4. Make the group visible only to approved members.

On a separate note, can someone handle calling Wednesday's game this week?  I'm on the road and I'd greatly appreciate it.

Marc

Sorry I have been swatting them down. I keep seeing them when I'm not at a computer and can't change the settings in mobile.
