No matter what brand of split cakes that you have, you need to have a vision for them.  It is very easy to get caught up in the bright colors when shopping and then not have any designs on your display board to use them.  A major source of inspiration for me is the Face Paint Forum, just the other day someone had posted about not knowing what to do with her black/gray/white split cake.  I have the TAG Magpie cake and was wondering the same thing.  Many of our members pulled together to come up with some great ideas.  Take a look at the forum post to see more http://www.facepaintforum.com/t6071-what-can-i-do-with-the-black-grey-white-artycake?highlight=black

Sometimes it may be more economical to make your own split cakes.  I do this with the rainbow splits as I use these so often.  The first thing you want to do when making your own is to first try out the color combinations on yourself.  I do this two different ways.  First option is to make a ‘tester sponge’.  I cut a sponge into strips (as demonstrated below) and load each section in the desired order and then test it out on my arm.  Another way to do this is to just paint the stripes next to each other to see if they look nice together.

As you can see, testing it out with the sponge will give you the most accurate test of what the colors will look like in a split cake.  Once you have the colors you would like to use figured out, you are ready to begin!!

Hope you had a great time reading my article and that you learned something new!  if you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message on the forum or create a post so that everyone can help you out!

TAG 1-Stroke: Leaf Yellow

TAG 1-Stroke: Unicorn

Here is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Unicorn!  To do this I used DFX White and TAG one stroke NEON.  I got this beautiful design from a very talented artist Lisa Willow Oakley and you can see her youtube tutorial at:
