Hi Guys. I've just updated the top of the "Snoopy" page http://www.gpss.co.uk/autop.htm
with a link to an experimental page http://www.gpss.co.uk/rbai1.htm <-- VERY POOR.

I was into AI ( Artificial Intelligence ) at University in the late 1960s http://www.gpss.co.uk/cityuni.htm
and in recent years I've found the "AI Summary" in Google useful - to take me to a trusted wiki source ;-)

BUT it is only in the last few days that I've started to have very interesting "Conversations" with Meta AI
on my Android smartphone, then today with ChatGPT on my old Windows 7 PC.
Yes, I have other later platforms, but have good reason to rely on old stuff ;-)

My conversations with MetaAI were amazing, in quickly it admitting to the limitations.

They share several common problems like needing https rather than http protocol,
only being able to look at text, rather than images or even videos.

BUT it was only today that I started with ChatGPT because, running on Windows,
it was simpler to copy and paste some of our conversation into an email or web page.

I proceeded to make sure ChatGPT could read the top of my "Snoopy" page
where it talks about the outstanding problems, before making another attempt.

I was pleasantly surprised when ChatGPT seemed to have a working solution in mind,
including naming chips, and offering to draw a circuit diagram for
Picaxe Autopilot -> SERVO PROTECTOR -> Futaba servo.

So, we agreed I'd set up the new page http://www.gpss.co.uk/rbap1htm and copy in
the html code from him ( it! :-) i.e, it was offering, and provided, html source, so I did not
even have to add the layout like <p> etc.

BUT, when I returned from setting it the page, with usual header, translation flags, etc
I had not kept the original conversation, so had to restart it with ChatGPT.
I did not have the time to "hold it's hand" and take it down the path earlier,
but I did at least get enough to paste into that page. What it says is completely wrong,
as anyone that has looked at the Snoopy page will know.

ChatGPT said that it had a problem visiting www,gpss.co.uk/rbap1.htm
( or rather the https version on http://www.gpss.co.uk.testurl.co.uk/rbap1.htm - if I got that correct
- because it was not public.

That's why I've updated the "Snoopy" page with a link to it, and also posting this email ;-)

No change on Snoopy - still out on our front drive - and occasionally works for a little while
if and when it gets sunlight and is given a "nudge" like turning power off and on.

LOTS of other things, all good, take priority for my time, as my Youtube channel reflects

Take Care - and don't get caught ;-)

Great reply Dick and I'll share it with the others on microtransat & robinlovelkocksfriends google group.
How much does the subscription to ChatGPT cost ? I may give it a try.
Not long back from village including La Sorrentina then Comrades Club.
Someone has to do it ;-)

Yes I’ve found ChatGPT invaluable as I’ve been rewiring Elfen, my Westerly Konsort Duo down in Poole Harbour.

I am paying the subscription for it so that may enhance my experience but I find I can recall every ‘chat’ from the menu top left of ChatGPT’s home page.  I’ve also found telling it to review our previous chats worked and got it to review those and refresh the details in its ‘memory’ of things it seemed to forgotten, eg I spoke of being unsure whether to recharge the boats battery by using the boat engine vs the portable Honda 240v generator I had taken down there and plug it in to the boats  ‘mains’ shore-line socket I would use if I were tied up alongside in a marina and not out in the harbour on a swing mooring  That is to say which was quicker and which most cost effective fuel wise.  In answering this, and because I didn’t know/couldn't see a label, ‘we’ assumed that the boats Volvo Penta 2003 had the stock 33amp alternator.  Later in the conversation it mentioned that some ‘boaties’ (its term) upgraded there alternators.  A couple of day later while crawling round the engine in the bilges I noticed an illegible (to my eyes due to distance and poor light) plate on the back of the alternator.  I pointed my iPhone camera in that general direction, posted it to ChatGPT and asked if it could make anything out that might confirm if it was in fact the stock alternator.  It examined the photo pixel by pixel, managed to extract the writing on the plate and announced that the alternator was in fact an upgraded 50amp one.  It then redid it’s previous calculation regarding most efficient charging for me.  Bottom line the engine is more efficient, though the generator produced more amps.  This is because the generator produces 240v a/c which then has to go through a charger to reduce it to ~14v d/c which reduces its efficiency (unless I upgraded the charger).

So interesting analysis by ChatGPT and certainly better ‘eyesight’ than me.  However I hadn’t asked what rpm I should run the engine at when charging so asked it that question a couple of days later and it’s replied included the statement “with your 35amp alternator …” so it appeared to have forgotten the previous analysis it had done.  I replied, “you’ve clearly forgotten our previous chat including what discovered about the alternator.  Please review our previous chats and reconsider what you just replied.”  It did so and answered back with something like, “ Good catch, yes I had established you had an upgraded alternator …”

So review what it says to you, be cautious about accepting everything at face value, cross question, interrogate or challenge it.  I’ve three time said “let me just play devils advocate …” and been able to point out inconsistencies.  The great thing is it doesn’t mind you doing that at all, and so you can be more confident about the quality of its comments.

Cheers, Dick
