Hi Guys. Last night I had a bright idea: put a waterproofed smartphone on Snoopy's Robot boat ?
It would obviously need to be put in a simple waterproof enclosure - easily made as a "jacket".

5v Power is already available, on the inside & outside of the box, for things like GPS logger.
We might mount it for Trans-Atlantic Missions, instead of removing the Mobius camera just used on Bray Lake.

It would probably be running Android, so I can exploit cheap, popular, Applications with which I'm familiar,
or new ones, after suitable testing. e.g. for the GPS Logger function, this might be the Ap we've used for years
for things like recording the track of a walk, then playing it back in 3D.

When within mobile phone range, we might hook up to get live video from the camera.
In landscape mode, possibly wide angle. Maybe also use it as an extra tracker, instead of a Pocket Pal.

VERY busy on lots of more important things, including conversations with guys local and far away,
such as Roger on west coast of Canada, near border with USA. See Wheelchair stuff halfway down "Grumpy" page http://www.gpss.co.uk/grumpy.htm Before that, play the "Edge of Darkness" video.

Topics overlap: Roger and the Guy spoken about, used my GPS tracking software for military
work in the late 1980s then early 1990s. e.g. "Barossa Operation" on "AsOnTV" http://www.gpss.co.uk/asontv.htm
Read his C.V. but don't let us go off topic here. I'll end this with an extract from top of Snoopy's page http://www.gpss.co.uk/autop.htm :-)

Good News on Snoopy's rudder servo: that model has now been running 24/7 on the test rig indoors, driven by an old autopilot, and restarting occasionally inside Snoopy's Robot Boat on "static test" outside.
Don't forget that nobody has found a solution to those other problems - prepared to give a price quote for ebay ;-)

Note that hobbies & charitable causes overlap with "business" ;-)

Blog11 explains that Snoopy is unlikely to make a 2024 Atlantic Attempt because Robin & others are too busy to solve problems on need for 1) spare Picaxe Autopilot; 2) I-GotU GPS Logger; 3) 5v power problem :-(
- but have a Great Christmas & Happy New Year. See our 2024 Christmas Newsletter :-)
