I hope this posting will work, but it what I just made to the very helpful Picaxe Form ...

Hi Guys. My relevant pages are www.gpss.co.uk/rbblog11.htm and other Snoopy pages.
I thought it best to start a different thread for this problem - finding a solution for the GPS logger to go in Snoopy's Trans-Atlantic boat.
In the past, we used the I'GotU Trave Trackers, that worked well, but are almost impossible to find anywhere.
I could design and build one, based on my use of the Ardulog solution, used for Bray Lake tests, that only needs to record
position, and maybe velocity ( based on GPS NMEA $GPRMC and $GPGGA sentences, every second, for a few hours.
I'm looking for a solution which has enough SD card (?) storage for 6 or 12 months. Maybe every 6 minutes, or less frequent.
I want it to be a completely independent sub system in the boat, including it's own GPS, and storage. Supply is 5v USB (solar) power.
As always, I prefer to buy built and tested kit, rather than design and build it myself ;-)
If anyone uses my public software for Snoopy's robot boat, for west to east Atlantic ( and several lakes ) it may help "fire enthusiasm" ;-)
Other pages are "Snoopy" on www.gpss.co.uk/autop.htm and "Design" on www.gpss.co.uk/rbdesign.htm KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid ;-)
Forgive me, but to reduce chances of Granpa being told how to suck eggs, check out "Contact" on www.gpss.co.uk/contact.htm
and "Robin's CV" on www.gpss.co.uk/robincv.htm Yea - I spent most of my working life getting others to do the real work ;-)
BTW that "Contact" page above has a black SOS tracker that I wear - so you will see if I am at home or in the Sunninghill Comrades Club or Pub ;-)

p.s. the attached image may make it easier to find the relevant place in Blog11 above.

Hi Guys - the few interested in Robot Boats. Following some telecons with friend Terry, I've done
some major tidy-ups on the "Snoopy" page http://www.gpss.co.uk/autop.htm particularly near the top, and on the linked "Design" page http://www.gpss.co.uk/rbdesign.htm making it clearer on things like the design of the software - practically unchanged since the 2012 Atlantic Attempt, other than exploitation of the larger Picaxe 28X2 computer. For some time the source code is available at the end of the page - for information only :-)
Perhaps most important, "Blog11" on http://www.gpss.co.uk/rbblog11.htm was updated today with latest good news on the boat, and emphasising where I still welcome help. e.g. simple "off the shelf" solutions to the GPS Logger, kept on the boat, and that "Servo Current Limiter". You may see that I also mention the difficulty of finding anyone able to "build and/or buy" compatible hardware, for things that are considered "obsolete". i.e. good product, like the I-GotU Traveltracker, but no longer a consumer market for them ;-) As always, I'm happy to pay a sensible price for a tested product, and welcome your ideas - if you've read this far :-)
Take Care
Robin
