I'm going to take the rest of the month of August off to work on a
musical project. I'll be back in September. I'll still check our group
everyday for spam and/or genuine enquiries and postings.

There is a more compact scan here, if needed (22.2 MB):

Let me know if you need anything else uploaded. I downloaded a handful
of PDF's over the weekend that I plan on sorting through and uploading
all at the same time.

Thanks but as far as I know all the files still on my hard drive are
less than 96 MBs.

Are there any Russian speakers here who might offer an insight into the
following circle, which predates Johann David Heinichen's 'musicalischer
circul' by 50 years or so:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d6/Diletsky_circle.jpg

It is found in the 1679 version of Nikolay Diletsky's "Idea grammatiki
musikiyskoy." (Идея грамматики музикийской, "An idea of musical grammar",
GBL 107, p. 134, a manuscript held by the Russian State Library.

The microtonal group has been very quiet of late, but hopefully there are
still living seeds out there.

Sorry for the delay. All of our activity is on our Facebook group called Microtonal Music and Theory. We definitely have Russian speakers in our Facebook group which now has 390 members.

OK, thanks – in the meantime my question has been addressed elsewhere, so am not currently needing information. Will check out the group you mentioned.

i'm still on this email list, but don't have a facebook account [and
don't want to get one]. this may leave me out, which is ok; but if
there is a different way for non-facebook-users to lurk [and
occasionally contribute], let me know!

Hello, all.

Quickly, from what I've been able to find on
the web plus a brief discussion in tuning on
yahoogroups, I would guess that this is a
demonstration of how the Western European
Dorian mode can be transposed from its usual
position on D to 11 other locations in a
circle of fifths.

Was Diletsky influenced by Zarlino (1558 and
later)? If so, the untransposed notes A-F-D-A-D
could show the three principal steps of Dorian
for cadences, according to Zarlino: the final D,
the third above (F), and the fifth above (A).
Zarlino's scheme is a simplification of earlier
modal theory, where the confinal or reciting
tone of a mode typically emphasized in the
course of a melody (often more than the
concluding final) could be the third, fourth,
fifth, or sixth step.

As was pointed out on tuning, the text on
the diagram mentions "bemols" (flats) and
"dieses" (here meaning sharps). Obviously
a translation of this text -- or, better
yet, one of more of his treatises -- would
be helpful, given my ignorance of Russian.

Best,

Margo

Margo and others:

Regarding Mikołaj Dilecki (aka Nikolay Diletsky), there's a relevant paper
by Claudia R. Jensen:
http://www.jstor.org/discover/10.2307/831450?uid=3737760&uid=2&uid=4&sid=211
01588673317

Additionally, her PhD thesis from 1987 and a more recent book.

Recordings of Dilecki choral works are online:
