Having felt the Western culture need to stay current with technology,
the driving motivation of our people, I "upgraded" to an all Intel 8th
generation i7 computer complete with unnecessary gaming video card
which I don't use, and of course Windows 10. The good news is that
Windows 10 is nowhere near the problem nay-sayers make of it. The bad
news is that Microsoft has bunches of free and cheap "apps" which are
super easy to download and install. Up to a point. Then "surprise!"
most of them stopped working, they start to launch and then crash. Go
to the Microsoft web site, and discover the same thing is happening to
everyone. Microsoft's first advice is to uninstall and reinstall. Not
only doesn't that help, but things just get worse. If you try to get
into the Microsoft apps folder, a message might pop up that you don't
have permission to open the folder!!? Huh?, it's my computer, all
bought and paid for and I don't have permission to open a folder? So,
digging deeper on Microsoft tech blogs we start to see more and more
esoteric instructions on super obscure instructions to do things like
go into the registry and search for some 20 digit hex number and copy
another 20 some digit hex number after that and look for that in some
obsure folder that we find through the "power shell" in some obscure
utility to try to fix the problem.... with responses from IT users of
no, that didn't work, no, that didn't work either.... all because we
thought a free app where you can see the current weather conditions,
or some other trivial nonsense, would be cool. I'm guessing the
problem is caused by Microsoft having grown so big and uncoordinated
that one group is pushing "upgrades" to the OS which break the "free
apps" group's code. Many of the people reporting this sort of problem
state it happened right after a Windows 10 "upgrade" was pushed.
Bottom line is, don't get tempted to download those free apps from the
Microsoft store, you'll be better off going to the dark web and
installing viruses on your computer.
