I am a VS and XML novice and get plenty of strange error messages of the
following kind when opening a VS 2005 session with an unmodified WordML file:

"The schema information could not be found for
element 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/word/2003/wordml:wordDocument'."

How come and what can I do?

Are you sure it is an error and not simply a warning?
What exactly is a "VS 2005 session"? Are you editing the WordML file in
Visual Studio?

Yes, VS 2005 stands for Visual Studio 2005, and 'Yes', these are 'simple
messages' as part of the error messages pane.

I think, I could find the origine of those messages: VS could not find the
related XML schema (XSD file) that was mentioned in the XML document with an
incorrect address. I have corrected that, now the messages are gone ...

Question: Why do I not get an EMAIL notification of your answer, even if I
activate this option?
