It is a real shame that it could not be packaged into a CAB file for use
inside web pages.

I know that CAB files cannot place the files in the folders required by
SOAP, so without some kind of change to the core files themselves, it seems
unlikely anyone can use SOAP inside a web page without first requiring the
user to manually install the SOAP Toolkit.

The redistributable seems to have gone walkabout as it's not available at
the link mentioned or from the MSDN SOAP site

http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?url=/downloads/sample.asp?ur
l=/msdn-files/027/001/948/msdncompositedoc.xml

Anyone know what's happened to it?

try the following url again, it should be correct.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/downloads/sample.asp?ur
l=/msdn-files/027/001/948/msdncompositedoc.xml

I just download it from this link. :-)

I compared the old and new redist files (I fortunately had the old one
before it was removed) and did a binary comparison of them all and the
binary files were EXACTLY the SAME! Only the license agreement and other
Word documents were updated - so why have people had to wait so long (a few
months) for the same redistributable code to be made public again?
