Given the choice between playing a game campaign that has a good story,
varied and interesting gameplay and replayability (which Halo USED to have),
and playing a bunch of morons online endlessly for a stupid flag (just as
pointless as real-life paintballing), I take the campaign any day. Am I an
oddity in this regard? No doubt most game designers, and other gamers, think
so.
It's time to defend the single-player campaign from exinction. Who the hell
said games were supposed to be "social"? lol
Tim
Most current next gen games are supposed to be all about the
multiplayer for two reasons.
1. you can make downloads for the multiplayer maps, weapons, vehicles,
ect much easier than you can do it in the single player.
2. most campaigns are supposed to prepare you and make you familiarize
yourself with the controls of the game
Also think about this for a second even though the original halo was a
great game especially in the storyline what in it was played the
most? The multiplayer part of it. Even today i can still put in
my halo disc for the PC and find thousands of matches online where
people want to play. Also most of the money in todays industry is in
the multiplayer how else would you be able to have just multiplayer
games like team fortress and shadow what ever it was called that
rooster teeth productions used last year for a quick machinima.
Multiplayer is where you spend the most time in a game and thats where
developers spend most of their time and unfortunately because of that
there will be more and more crappy single player campaign which is
kind of sad.
I completely agree with silentpig. I got the original Halo about
5 months ago, cuz I dont have a 360 and my computer isnt fast enough
for Halo 2. I only played the campaign once. I already got bored after
the first level. Ive played the multiplayer about 400 times. I love
the multiplayer. Everyone has got a different skill level and it is a
lot more challenging than against a stupid CPU. Also, the stupid
looking grunts are so ugly and pathetic.
Almost every game Ive played has a good campaign level and a way
better multiplayer level. I like the STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2 "INSTANT
ACTION", which are custom made battle, a lot better than, "RISE OF THE
EMPIRE", which is the campaign. Im also getting bored with Call Of
Duty 1 on the computer, so Im hoping to install it in a computer with
internet.
I guess Tim.T is right. The campaigns really are starting to
suck. About the only campaign I still like, is SOCOM: US Navy Seals,
but I bet that is I could hook the internet up with that, Id probably
like multiplayer a lot better. Not to mention, you actually get a team
during single, anyway.
As for the part of "stupid flag", you dont have to play CTF.
Theres also Slayer, Oddball, etc. If you're really annoyed with all of
them, I suggest you try STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT, 1 or 2. They have
something that Ive never seen before. Theyve got battles where you
have to try to take over Command Posts. Youve got to stand next to one
for about 25 sec. while making sure no hostiles are nearby. Its really
hard, cuz enemy reinforcements respawn usind command posts. Luckily,
their entire army can only respawn a certain number of times. Its
decided before the game. You can also play the 1-flag CTF, 2-flag CTF,
HUNT, or ASSAULT. In hunt, you and your team just has to hunt down and
kill the enemy team in a certain amount of time. In assault, you just
have to kill each other, like SLAYER.
Halo 3 has something similar called "Territories" Most people vote it down,
so you will rarely play it.
