Is there a DOA storyline?

I noticed a film coming out next year called "DOA: Dead or Alive" starring
Devon Aoki and Natassia Malthe among others. The plot outline states: "The
movie adaptation of the best selling video game series Dead or Alive."

What exactly is the the plot, if any, of the Dead or Alive video games? All
I can gather is a that it's a fighting game. Any more to it? I know this
is a group for DOA3, but I'm also curious to know about Dead or Alive and
Dead or Alive 2.
Obviously, I'm not much of a gamer.
