That can't be DOA4. If that is DOA4, i will NOT be getting an Xbox 2. It's
one of the main reasons why i had chosen to go for Xbox again. Sure there is
more detail, but it's no more realistic than before. I expected more
realism.. a more convincing look considering it is a next-gen system. Give
me a break.. i don't even see any bumpmapping, advanced materials, or really
anything that differentiates this from the last generation besides the
resolution, depth of field for the sake of marketing, and a bit more
geometry and cleaner textures. The models don't even really look much more
detailed actually. These Devs are going to have to do better if they want to
convince people that the Xbox 2 is truly next-gen material. So far, things
have not been very convincing...

On the brighter side, i've been truly impressed with what i've seen with the
Unreal Engine 3. Now that is next-gen material, and has a lot of potential
in providing an immersive visual experience. Unfortunately, we don't yet
know how much of the quality we have seen in UE3 screenshots is going to
actually make it into gameplay, and if the Xbox 2 is powerful enough to run
what we have been seeing with say, gears of war, at that level of detail and
with a good framerate.

Mike B, this is what I understand (and I might be wrong but it should give
you some hope)

Dead or Alive 4 was first started as an Xbox1 game. and even now that it
is going to be an Xbox2 / 360 game, it was developed on, and is still
running on, older ATI hardware (9800 Pro/XT or X800 XT) and also not using
the final triple-core IBM CPU. remember how games looked on the Xbox1
Alpha dev kit which only had GeForce3 (NV20)
in it? and all of those games and demos running on the even older GeForce2
GTS (NV15) ? back in early 2001 and 2000? well, the DoA4 shots you see
here, this is a similar situation - none of us outside of ATI-IBM-MS have
seen actual Xbox 360 graphics or CPU power at work.

I admit that those screens of DoA4 are dissappointing, but so were many
Xbox1 games on pre-final hardware.

Poor pics to post.
That is without question an XBox 1 title.

Are we looking at different games? Everything Team Ninja puts together
looks amazing, and I'd challenge anyone who thinks they can do better to do
so! I know that I'd love to see work that looks better, but I am perfectly
happy with what this generation has made so far.

It seems like people don't really appreciate how far games have come -
remember Qix? Tron? Those were thought to be absolutely stunning in their
time, but now they look rough in comparison. 360 will have its day, but
never expect excellence in launch titles.

Ah, you're all crazy. The poly resolution on the characters is
unquestionably higher than on DOA3/DOAXVB. (DOA3, in fact, had what
looked like exactly the same models as DOA2... they had the exact same
poly silhouettes.)

DOA3 looked amazing, and I think DOA4 looks better -- but there's
only so far to improve in this anime-ish/realistic direction. (I do hope
they can do some more dramatic lighting, though.) In DOA4, the pics show
no blocky polys anywhere on the characters, and the lighting effects _on
the characters_ seem improved as well.

Hello. I'm Leonard Nimoy. The following tale of alien encounters is
true. And by true, I mean false. It's all lies. But they're
entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth? The
answer is: No. -- "The Springfield Files"

It's for the 360. I was a bit underwhelmed when I first saw these
pictures but Team Ninja made some of the most visually impressive
games for the xbox and I fully expect that to continue on the 360.

I was more than a bit underwhelmed.
I feel these are just enhanced XBox 1 pics. DOA 4 was originally slated for
this gen of consoles and now Tecmo is going to port it over to the 360. I'm
sure the finished product will look much better than these screenshots. I
stand by what I said in that these particular shots far from wow me
considering it's suppose to be next gen. DOA needs all the help it can get
in the graphics department considering it's not much of a fighter to begin
with.

I agree, but for the sake of completeness:

Define "next gen material"

They're all clearly old screenshots. Notice the advetising display in the
background on one of the pics? "Congratulations on your xenon launch" or
something like that.
For what it's worth....I think they look good. The hair is awful however.
