Hi, I'm dealing with MS Works 2002.

I ran uninstall from Add/Remove and then followed the instructions here:
http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/MICROSOF/sHARED/7513181faq24.shtml

I then re-installed 'Picture It' from the disk. I could have sworn Calendar
was gone initially (but I can't be sure). Anyway, it's back now. And the
strange thing is that it has all of my appointments from before I started the
whole uninstall procedure.

How do I remove MS Works calendar?

Many thanks to all who respond,

Mark

Hi sendtomaz,

The Works Calendar is an integral part of the Works program
and is not separately uninstallable.

Your appointments etc. were safeguarded in the Works Calendar
database file: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=263971

Thanks Kevin.

I ran the install/uninstall for all of MS Works and then followed the
instructions at gateway.com. Did this remove the Calendar? Obviously it did
not remove my appointments.

Did the reinstallation of 'Picture It' cause it to return? Or was it never
gone?

I don't have a Mswkscal.wcd on my computer or any other file with a .wcd
extension. I'm running Works 2002.

I need to keep 'MS Word' and 'Picture It' on my computer. Does this mean I
need to keep the Calendar? If so, what is the easiest way to remove all my
appointments and reminders? Simply delete the file that contains them?

Thanks,

Ken

Re: what is the easiest way to remove all my appointments and reminders?

Hi,

At this time I am on a WindowsMe operating system, Mswkscal.wcd, on this
system it is located C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Works.

The Application Data folder is hidden on Windows XP.

First you have to show hidden files.

Go to Control panel and open Folder Options or open My Documents, choose
Tools on the menu bar, then choose Folder Options on it's menu. Either way
opens the Folder Options window. Choose the View tab then tick "Show hidden
files and folders", click OK.

Search for Mswkscal.wcd, there may be an advance option to search in hidden
folders, assure it is selected.

After locating the location of Mswkscal.wcd, rename it Mswkscal.old.

Open calendar, if you receive a message that files are missing, you have
located the correct file.

Locate Mswkscal.wcd on your installation disk and copy it to the same folder
as Mswkscal.old.

After copying, right click Mswkscal.wcd and assure "Read Only" is not
checked, sometimes when copying it becomes read only.

Open calendar, if all is okay you can delete Mswkscal.old,

Hope this helps,
Ken

Thanks Ken,

I apologize for claiming there was no Mswkscal.wcd file on my computer. It
was in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Works. For
some reason my Desktop Search engine did not find it.

Renaming it to .old produced the expected reults, but I can not find an
Mswkscal.wcd file on any of my 5 MS Works discs.

Thank you for your patience Ken. I'm not sure why Windows search didn't find
it when I searched my CD_drive.

Sorry also for the multiple responses. The first 3 times I got a message
indicating that my post had not been accepted.

Anyway, it worked like a charm. All the appointments are gone.

At the risk of repeating myself, let me explain where I'm at.

Setup.exe on disc 1 indicates that 'MS Works' has been uninstalled.
However, Calendar still remains on my machine. 'MS Money', 'MS Streets &
Trips', and 'Encarta' have also been uninstalled. 'MS Word' and 'MS Picture
It' remain.

How can I remove Calendar? Is it not part of MS Works which I have
uninstalled?

Thanks again,

Mark

Re: How can I remove Calendar? Is it not part of MS Works which I have

Hi Mark,

Your query is something I am not familiar with. According to Kevin James
the Works Calendar is an integral part of the Works program and is not
separately uninstallable. Why it still functions with Works uninstalled is
something I have never tried.

Of course I also do not understand why you want to remove Works.

Perhaps you might reinstall and give it a try.

I like using the Works Word Processor with it's simplicity. It also lets me
address envelopes using the Windows Address Book, where as my Microsoft Word
version 2000 does not. Also it's labels and mail merge is a heck of a lot
easier to use.

As you have Works Suite it hides Works Word Processor leaving Word as it's
processor. To gain access to Works Word processor search for WksWP.exe,
right click , select Send To, on it's expanding menu choose Desktop (create
shortcut), open Works Word processor from the Desktop icon.

And if you ever need a Spreadsheet or Database they are also part of Works.

You might find Kevins downloads interesting..

Ken, thanks for the detailed response.

I'm running out of hard drive space. As I have MS Office installed on this
machine MS Works seemed redundant.

Hi Mark,

If Works is uninstalled then the Calendar also gets uninstalled,
it is an integrated part of Works. You can use the Control Panel
applet 'Add or Remove Programs' to confirm that Works had indeed
been uninstalled from your machine, though the link you referred to
should do a thorough job of uninstalling Works.
http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/MICROSOF/sHARED/7513181faq24.shtml

The individual applications that accompany Works, in Works Suite
2002, can be installed without the need for Works to be installed, as
in earlier versions:

Thanks for the reponse Kevin.

The only thing left in Add/Remove is MS Works 2003 Setup Luuncher and I
can't seem to remove that. I did follow the instructions at
http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/MICROSOF/sHARED/7513181faq24.shtml

MS Works seems to be gone from my machine with the exception of Calendar.

wkscal.exe is in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared
and there is a copy in C:\Program Files\WorksBkup\Works Shared.

Any suggestions as to how to remove this thing?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I would delete these files, manually.
