Disktop problem?

My desktop has many, many open files and folders. My shortcut icons are as they
should be, but when I opened my computer the desktop opened with all of the other
icons, which are not shortcut icons, I am not sure how to describe this folder. I
can also see behind all of the files other icons and in red large letters it
says: Desktop Active Resolve. I cannot get my desktop back to the original
settings. If you can understand my description I appreciate any help. Thank you...
