I cannot record a macro in word 97 in vista home premium. When I click
'keyboard' message says that the macro cannot be recorded. Everything else
in word 97 works ok.

Thanks, AL

I am not sure what you mean by "click 'keyboard'" Have you tried selecting
Macro from the Tools menu and then selecting the Record Macro item.

Hi, Doug: Thanks for your reply. Here is what happens.

I select the TOOLS menu which gives me a choice of MACROS or RECORD NEW
MACRO. I select RECORD NEW MACRO which gives me a choice of TOOLBAR or
KEYBOARD in which to assign the macro.

I fill in the MACRO NAME, STORE MACRO IN and DESCRIPTION text boxes.

Then I click on the KEYBOARD icon prior to actually recording the macro
keystrokes but I get the message THE MACRO COULD NOT BE CREATED.

The same scenario plays out if I begin by clicking on the REC box on the
bottom status toolbar.

Thanks again, AL

What name are you giving to the macro?

What are you selecting/entering into the "Store macro in:" control?

What if you just accept the default selections and press OK?

Tried that many times. I get the same message if I select OK instead of
TOOLBAR OR KEYBOARD.

One detail I haven't mentioned because I do not think it is pertinent to
writing a macro is this: When I first select WORD I get a screen message
that says: 'The Create Adobe PDF monitor cannot be found. Please re-install
Create Adobe PDF.' I am not aware that WORD97 does a PDF conversion or save.
Besides, I do not know how to re-install it even if I wanted to. I don't
have a need for this as I use CUTE PDF to write PDF files.

Many thanks again, Doug. AL

I would try and get rid of what is causing the Adobe error message when you
start Word - Maybe Control Panel>Add Remove Programs (or the Vista
equivalent) - as there maybe some hang-over from that error that is causing
the problem.
