Your chat sidebar works in a similar way. The algorithm chooses interactions, activity, communication, photos, etc. This determines which friends will show up on top and have priority. The friends that you communicate with most often will usually be first on this list.

According to Facebook algorithms, a specific group will be assigned based on interactions, communication, and photos. Your updates are linked to your friends, comments, and mutually-held events on your wall; your friends are the ones who post the most frequently. Everyone has the right to show a friend, regardless of their social networking or chat activity.

This is a difficult question to answer definitively as Facebook likely has a complex algorithm that takes many factors into account. However, some believe that the order of friends on chat is determined, at least in part, by how often users interact with one another. So, if you are constantly chatting with a particular friend, they may appear higher up on your list. Additionally, the order may also be influenced by the time of day, with friends who are most active during the times you are logged on appearing first.

Facebook keeps track of everything you do on the site, including your profile actions. However, the information will not be shared with anyone. To resolve this issue, you can create a new List for the friends you want to hide from and then set that list to offline in Facebook chat.

The first few chat bots have settled into Facebook Messenger this week, but an army of the artificially intelligent helpers are on the way with a plan to change the way you get information, order food, shop and even stay entertained. Chat bots were one of the focal points of Facebook's annual F8 developer's conference this week in San Francisco.

Once your accounts are linked, you can start chatting to your friends and contacts through cross-app chat. But how can you tell which contacts are your original Facebook friends or Instagram followers?

Facebook chat and messages allow you to communicate privately with your friends on Facebook. Unlike the other things you share on Facebook, such as status updates or photos, chats and messages will not be shared with all of your friends or posted on your Timeline.

You can also send messages to Facebook friends via the Messages menu. This can be an easier way to find people if they're offline or if you're having trouble finding them in the chat box.

Last year, Facebook and PayPal announced a deepened relationship that allowed customers in the U.S. to shop from online merchants using their Messenger chat bots, then transact in the messaging app via PayPal. Customers could also choose to link their PayPal account with Messenger in order to receive notifications and receipts from their online transactions within Messenger.

Want to order an Uber? Use Messenger. Need to make a voice or video call? Use Messenger. Want to play a game against your friends? Use Messenger. That's without touching on all the different ways it lets you send GIFs, stickers, photos, and images to your friends. None of these things are solely found on Messenger, but their combined benefits mean you'll likely want to use the app.

In September 2011, Facebook introduced "Timeline" at its developer conference, intended to revamp users' profiles in order to show content based on year, month and date. "Cover" photos were introduced, taking up a significant portion of the top of pages, and a redesigned display of personal information such as friends, likes and photos appeared on the left-hand side, while story posts appeared on the right. The new design introduced flexible sizing for story posts in the feed, along with more prominent location and photo placement. The Timeline also encouraged scrolling, with constantly loading story posts of users' pasts.[17][18][19] Timeline began gradually rolling out to users in New Zealand starting December 7, 2011,[20] and was made officially available to all users worldwide on December 15.[21][22] By January, the switch to Timeline became required for all users.[23][24] In February 2012, Timeline became available for Facebook Pages.[25]

Listen with Friends allows Facebook users to listen to music and discuss the tunes using Facebook Chat with friends at the same time. Users can also listen in as a group while one friend acts as a DJ. Up to 50 friends can listen to the same song at the same time, and chat about it. Every time a user begins listening to music with a friend, a "story will be posted to her/his friends" ticker and/or news feed. Users will have control over who will be able to see when they are listening with a friend through their App Settings page after installing the compatible music app.[175] This feature was initially supported through Audizer.com, but as of August 2012, services were discontinued and the Facebook / Audizer splash page has been redirected to Facebook.com.[176]

In February 2010, TechCrunch reported that Facebook was working to rewrite its messaging service to turn it into a "fully featured webmail product", dubbed "Project Titan".[240] The feature, unofficially dubbed a "Gmail killer" internally, was launched on November 15, 2010,[241] and allowed users to directly communicate with each other via Facebook using several different methods. Users could create their own "username facebook.com" email address to communicate, use text messaging, or through the Facebook website or mobile app's instant messaging chat. All messages were contained within single threads in a unified inbox.[242] The email service was terminated in February 2014 because of low uptake.[243][244]

Facebook launched Messenger Kids in 2017, pitching it as a way for children to chat with family members and friends approved by their parents. The app doesn't give kids separate Facebook or Messenger accounts. Rather, it works as an extension of a parent's account, and parents get controls, such as the ability to decide with whom their kids can chat.

If you are 12 or older, you can ask for a restraining order on your own and without your parent's permission. In some cases, a judge may ask you to have a trusted adult help you in your case. If you are under 18, you can go to your local court's Self Help Center for help. For support and safety tips, you can chat at loveisrespect.org, text "LOVEIS" to 22522, or call 1-866-331-9474.

If you're Facebook friends with the person on the other end of the chat, you can enable disappearing messages as well. These let you put a timer on every message sent, so they'll delete themselves after a short period of time.

Deeper analysis of data collected in this way begins to draw up a clear picture of people's schedule: where they work, where they drink coffee, where they go the gym, where they sleep... You may not have even realised that your friends' location information was being shared in the conversations you had via Facebook Messenger, as there is no visual sign. It's only when you click on their speech bubble that you discover that embedded into the chat is location data, which reveals where the sender was with creepy accuracy.

What about all the people you asked to be your friend who ignored or deleted your request? Facebook keeps track of that. Go to facebook.com/friends/requests for a list of the people who hate you. Or maybe they just don't check Facebook that much. Probably both.

In theory, all your Facebook friends are actually people you like, and want to hear from, but that's not realistic. But it would be rude to defriend your aunt or your chatty high school classmate. Take the easy way out and Unfollow them. Their posts won't appear in your News Feed, but you'll still be "friends" as far as Facebook is concerned. Unfollow from the News Feed by selecting the ellipsis and clicking "Unfollow [friend]." They won't be notified and you can scroll in peace. Re-activate your virtual friendship later by going to Settings & Privacy > News Feed Preferences > Reconnect.

The popularity of Facebook has led to the development of a companion app, Messenger. This app allows users to chat with friends and family without using the Facebook website. We can download the app and log in with our Facebook credentials.

Facebook announced Tuesday it was launching a system to send money to friends for US customers using its Messenger mobile app. googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1449240174198-2'); ); The free service will be offered "in the coming months," according to a Facebook statement, and will put the huge social network in competition with services such as Square Cash and Venmo. The money transfer will use bank debit cards of members for a quick cash transfer, which may take up to three days depending on the banks used, Facebook said.Facebook already handles a considerable amount of payments through its platform for advertisers and for games on its network."Facebook processes more than one million transactions daily on the site and also handles all the payments processed on Messenger," the statement said."We use secure systems that encrypt the connection between you and Facebook as well as your card information when you ask us to store it for you."It was not immediately clear if Facebook would be able to generate revenue from peer-to-peer money transfers, but the feature could be the start of a more extensive payment network which could be profitable. The messaging service Snapchat also offers a similar feature, in partnership with Square Cash.rl/rcw 2015 AFP
