Hello,

I was recently upgraded to XP from 97. So far everything
has gone well, with the exception of decimal tabs. In XP,
if I have a decimal tab set and type in numbers, cells
that have more numerals do not stay set to the tab. The
data in those cells travel instead of wrapping or being
cut off. Does anyone know how to keep the numbers from
moving?

much thanks in advance!

I'm sure you know that you must have the cell left-aligned for decimal tabs
to work, but beyond that, the problem may be in auto resizing. You can
disable this using the Options button on the Table tab of Table Properties.

Yes, my cells are left-aligned and the auto-resizing is
already turned off. Any other thoughts?

Are you sure the tab is set in a position that allows room for the required
number of numerals on either side of the decimal point?

That's the point, there isn't enough room, and it used to
cut the data off. Now it just moves the data. Before I
new that I needed to adjust the tab or make the cell
wider, now I have guess where to reset the tab, because
there isn't a good way to know exactly that where to place
the tab.

Well, drag it a bit and see what happens to the text. When all the numbers
are aligned correctly, that's the right spot!

That's what we've been doing. I was really hoping there
was a way to prevent Word from moving the numbers. Guess
it's just one of those "new" features we'll have to get
used to. Thanks for your help.

I can't imagine that Word is "moving the numbers." It may be changing the
column width, but you can disable that by clearing the check box for
"Automatically resize to fit contents" in the Table Options.
