Deleting a paragraph between tables/merging two tables

For some reason, perhaps when i put a page break on the wrong spot, my very
long table got split up. Now there are lines/paragraphs in between my table
and I can't delete them nor figure out how to re-merge the table into ONE
table.

Help!

Try this: go to view, normal. Then select the area that is splitting your
tables, go to "table" menu, and choose "convert text to table".

I was able to delete the page breaks--it's the paragraph I can't delete. I
changed my view to show all P's, and even if I highlight the P and delete or
cut it, I can't get rid of it to make my table whole again...

Well, that helped but did nto fix the problem...I converted the line space to
a table, then deleted that, which makes it look as if my table is whole, but
it is still being recognised as two tables.

Right-click each table, choose Table Properties, and make sure that Text
wrapping is set to None (instead of Around) for both tables.

Does this now let them remarry?

No. They were already set to none when I checked it. It is now just two
tables butted up against each other and I can't get them back together (I
never intentionally took them apart--was due to page breaks >:-( )

If they have the same lateral dimensions & number of columns, they should go
back together quite easily.

Barring that... you can add rows to the end of the 1st table, then paste the
contents of the 2nd into those rows, and delete the 2nd table.

That desperation trick may be required. This has happened to me only once,
and I was under deadline, so I didn't have time to figure out what the heck
was going wrong, but I know that everything was as it should be: neither of
the tables was wrapped; no rows in the second table were marked as headings;
they had originally been part of the same table and still had identical
structures. But the stubborn fact was that, even though they looked like a
single table when I removed the intervening paragraph (I'm not sure how it
got inserted in the first place, actually), they did not behave as one, and
there didn't seem to be anything I could do to change that. I wish now I'd
kept a copy of the doc to examine later at greater leisure to see if I could
figure out what the problem was.

If the table looks like one table but acts as two, I've found that sometimes
the table styles are different (go to Table/Table AutoFormat). E.g., once I
had the same situation but the top table was based on the "normal" table
style and the bottome one was based on the "table grid" style. Once I changed
the top one to "table grid," the tables became one. I had to fix manual
borders, etc., but it was still faster than adding rows and copying and
pasting.

That's a great suggestion. I use Table Normal by default, but in a given
situation, it's not at all unlikely that Table Grid might have snuck in.

There's a real good chance you're running into the same thing I
continually forget and have to re-learn; Tracking can drive you nuts.

If Tracking was enabled when the new paragraph mark was created, try
as you might, you will not be able to delete it via Edit | Cut or the
Delete key. To get rid of it you will have to Reject the change, or,
disable Tracking, at which point you will be able to Cut or Delete.

Hope this is the answer for you. If not, I guess we're all stumped.
