Ziyarat Nahiya: A Sacred Salutation to Imam Hussain (as) by Imam Mahdi (ajtfs)
Ziyarat Nahiya (Ziyarah Nahiya al-Muqaddasa) is one of the several prescribed ziyarat (salutations) to Imam Hussain (as), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (saw) and the third Imam of Shia Muslims. It is recited on the day of Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram, when Imam Hussain (as) and his companions were martyred by the army of Yazid in Karbala. It is also recited on other occasions, such as the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi (ajtfs), the twelfth and hidden Imam of Shia Muslims.

Ziyarat Nahiya is attributed to Imam Mahdi (ajtfs), who recited it and sent it to one of his four special deputies during the minor occultation. The word nahiya means "the sacred person" or "the sacred area", and it refers to Imam Hussain (as) and his holy shrine. The word muqaddasa means "the sanctified" or "the blessed". Ziyarat Nahiya is also known as Ziyarat al-Nahiya al-Muqaddasa.

One of the most important features of Ziyarat Nahiya is that it graphically describes the events of Ashura and the agony that Imam Hussain (as) and his family faced on that horrific and ominous day. It also expresses the grief and sorrow of Imam Mahdi (ajtfs) for being unable to help his grandfather and for being separated from him. Ziyarat Nahiya begins with salutations to Allah, His Messenger, His angels, His prophets, His saints, His friends, His chosen ones, His righteous ones, His witnesses, His martyrs, His successors, His vicegerents, His proofs, His signs, His arguments, His trustees, His guardians, His leaders, His guides, His Imams, and His blessings. It then salutes each prophet by name and mentions their virtues and miracles. It then salutes each Imam by name and mentions their titles and attributes.

Ziyarat Nahiya then salutes Imam Hussain (as) with various epithets and praises him for his courage, sacrifice, patience, piety, knowledge, wisdom, generosity, nobility, purity, justice, mercy, kindness, compassion, forgiveness, intercession, leadership, guidance, guardianship, authority, proof, sign, argument, trustee, guardian,
leader,
guide,
Imam,
and blessing. It then salutes his companions who were martyred with him in Karbala and mentions their names and ranks. It then salutes his family members who were taken as captives after his martyrdom and mentions their names and relations.

Ziyarat Nahiya then narrates the events of Ashura in detail and vividly depicts the scenes of brutality,

bloodshed,
slaughter,
mutilation,
desecration,
humiliation,
and torture that Imam Hussain (as) and his family endured at the hands of Yazid's army. It also narrates the speeches,

testimonies,
admonitions,
warnings,
and advices that Imam Hussain (as) delivered before and during the battle. It also narrates the miracles,
