My PC hard drive crashed recently, and I had to reinstall
all my software. Since doing this, whenever I use Word
2003 (with Windows XP Home), the spelling checker ignores
words with American spelling, even though I've selected
English (UK) as my language. For example, if the
word "recognize" appears in the document, the spelling
checker doesn't pick it up, even though the UK/Australian
spelling is "recognise". The same occurs for any other
words that are spelled in the American way as opposed to
the UK/Australian way.
My templates all specify English (UK) as the language, the
text itself through all the documents (including the
problem words) are all marked as English (UK). The little
book with the cross/tick at the bottom also comes up as a
cross, even though the "The spelling check is complete"
comes up when I run a check. The American spellings are
not included in my custom dictionary.
In short, I can't think of why this problem has arisen
since I've re-installed the software. Are there any
settings I've missed?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Have a great day!
AJ
