I know that &#61514 is the code for the smiley face in MS word.

But what does "code in MS word" mean??

Just type "" in any *.doc, then the :-) will show itself
automatically??

I've tried this way, but failed.

And "&#61514" in html shows a rectangle in IE but a question mark in
Mozilla.

I am confused!

How can I make the strange smile face "" shown ???

Thank U in advance. &#61514

If you want to produce a smiley face in a Word document (Word 97 or
later--maybe even Word 95), just type :). In Word 2002, you can also type
263A, then press Alt+X.

Thank you.

Just type :) or :-) and MS word change it to a real smiley face . That's
funny.

But I'm still confused about the strange code ""

Why so many people would like to post it as a smiley face instead of the :)
or :-) ?

Maybe it's the same reason that people prefer BTW to " by the way " ??? (
 )

&#61514 is presumably the HTML code for the Unicode character whose decimal
number is 61514 (263A hex). If you compose a message in Word and allow
AutoCorrect to correct :) to a smiley, then paste that text into a
text-based newsreader such as Outlook Express, you'll just get a question
mark. But if you paste it into a Web page, such as the posting form in the
Microsoft Communities portal, then you'll get &#61514. The same type of
result is seen much more frequently with "smart quotes" and other similar
non-ASCII characters.
