Does anyone know the unicode number or how to find the
symbol that is a parentheses with an equal sign through
it?

You're not looking for the euro symbol are you? That's at 20AC, in the
Currency Symbols subset. I don't see anything else, even in Arial Unicode,
that seems to meet that description, but if you're trying to replicate the
callout for inserted parens in edited text, you could overstrike a paren
with an equals sign using the EQ \o field. To create it, press Ctrl+F9 to
insert a pair of field delimiters (the things that look like braces but
can't be entered from the keyboard), and type

EQ \o (\(, =)

Then press F9 to update. You'll need to Alt+F9 to delete the trailing space
at the end of the field.

If you're working on a doc for someone else, make sure it's okay. The euro
has a lot more "curve" to it than a parentheses.

If the font you are using does not have a euro symbol, possibly, if it is an
Adobe, Font Bureau, or many other commercial font, there is an update for or
of it that does. Contact the source of the font for information.

Also, Adobe, and others have special-purpose fonts to supply the euro
symbol. And there are some special-need fonts. e.g.
http://www.worldofwibble.com/software/file.php?name=eurofont

Let us know.

It's not clear either from Sara's initial post or from her reply whether the
euro is what she was actually looking for or not.

How about using Alt+0128 (number pad with numlock on) in the current
versions of Arial or Times New Roman?

That's the euro symbol we've been talking about, 0128 ASCII, 20AC Unicode.
