I just went through the whole keyboard once and then again
using the shift key to find out what the keys did to find
the one that was relevant to me.
Hi Alankar,
Open the Insert > Symbol dialog.
If you choose some symbol from "Wingdings" and then change the font to "Arial" or some other regular font, the character that's highlighted is the key you have to press.
(Select the "Wingdings" font and then the smiley :-) then change to Arial: "J" is selected).
If you want a print-out of all characters in Wingdings or another decorative font, you can download the attachment from http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Board=wrd&Number=77886 .
It's a Word document (table) that shows you all the characters in a decorative font.
Change the "Decorative" character style to "Wingdings" ("Format > Style", choose the "Decorative" style, "Modify > Format > Font", choose "Wingdings", "OK", "OK", "Close").
The document will then display all characters from the "Wingdings" font in green, the corresponding keys in red (for example "J" for the smiley).
The table will also allow you to see the code, so you could type the character with Alt+XXX (Alt+074 for the smiley).
And it's easy to determine the Unicode number for a character from the decorative font, which you would need in Word2000 to search for that character (for example ^u61514 for the smiley).
:-) Klaus
