Appreciate suggestions on this printing problem. Just got PC with WinXP and
WordXP(2002). Printer is all-American HP4050 laser, installed the drivers
from WinXP for it. Works great for lettersize, varying size paper,
mini-labels, others, except for one size--a narrow and TALL sheet.

When open new Word document, specify pagesize of 4.25x11 (tall sheet)
instead of 8.5x11 (standard letter)--It SHOULD print in the CENTER where the
paper feeds down the center (like half-sheet labels do) because you slide
the printer's left/right paper guides inward for narrower paper. But it
prints off to the LEFT like on the old printers that have only one paper
guide.

Can't be the driver, because for labels it knows to print down the center.
Odd thing too is that if you drop the height down like specifying 4.25 x 9,
it starts printing down the center like it's supposed to. What's wrong with
4.25 x 11?

By the way, it prints envelopes (4.? x 9.5) great and knows to go to the
center to print.

Thanks for ideas

The printer probably has a defined paper size for 4.25 x 9, but 4.25 x 11 is
a custom size. My HP LJ 4100 works the same way: unless the paper size is
defined in the driver, you have to feed it from the left. If you want to
feed the paper from the center, then select US Letter and adjust the margins
accordingly (i.e., add 2.13 to the margin on each side).
