Drag ScrollBar Button -> Document DOES NOT SCROLL <- Only a Stupid Tool Tip!!!

Dragging the vertical scrollbar button in a Word 97 document fails to scroll
the document.

Instead of scrolling the document (like Internet Explorer and every other
Microsoft app) Word 97 displays a useless tool tip that displays the page
number of the page THAT WOULD BE SHOWING IF THE DARN THING SCROLLED
CORRECTLY.

How can I change Word 97 to scroll the page vertically when the vertical
scrollbar is dragged? This has to be an option somewhere, but I sure can't
find it.

Thanks,
John A. Beach

Sorry John,
but as far as I know there isn't any possibility to do that. It bothers me too,
but that's a functionality which is fixed. The problem of a "real-time"
scrolling is that there would be a lot of computation required. Since this was
a problem for former computers the programmers decided not to do it. An ASCII
file or a HTML document is based on a totally different programming philosophy
than Word is.
And by the way, Excel (which is also a Microsoft application) does the same as
Word regarding scrolling.

Joachim/John,

the Microsoft Intellimouse and Logitech Mouseman+ both scroll perfectly
using the centre thumb wheel. So, I leave you to your own conclusions why
the scroll bar now works differently in Office97 from previous versions.

Huh? Internet Explorer v4.01sp1 does it. CScrollView supports this type of
scrolling directly in AppWizard generated applications. I've implemented it
in my own programs many times.

I know... :(

I figured/hoped the fix for Word would work for Excel too. Thanks for the
answer.

Terry,

I suspect you are correct... :(

I have an Intellimouse, but I seem to be rooted in grabbing the scrollbar
button and dragging it to read documents - even IE401sp1 supports it. It is
a hard habbit to break.

Thanks for your replies.

There is a Auto Scroll button in Word, BUT. There is always a but with
Microsoft.

1. Mouse over the toolbars.
2. Right Click, choose customise.
3. Choose the second tab, Commands.
4. Choose Tools
5. Go about half way down the list on the right and pick up Auto Scroll and
drop it on to one of your tool bars.
6. Close the customise window.

To Auto Scroll click the button and move the mouse either up or down, keep
the mouse over the button! To stop Auto Scrolling left click.

Adrian,

wonderful! Now where has that been hiding or have I been blind? It is there
and it works just like the IntelliPoint/Mouseman+ do when in scrolling mode.
