Hey, I got the following message when I was working in
Word XP.

increasing margin causes last column to become too narrow
in some sections having unevenly separated columns.

I got this while messing around w/ page layout, but I was
working w/ two documents at a time, so I don't know where
the breakdown occurred. My only guess is that it has to do
w/ something about my using landscape or using two columns
per page is the problem because that's the main activity I
was engaging in. It also may have to do w/ my trying to
figure out bookfold b/c I was messing w/ that too. All I
know is that I can't get a document in portrait format now
because it keeps giving me that message. I've tried
averything that I know, and I've even restored word to
it's defaults, and reinstalled it. So if anyone can help
me, I would really appreciate it. ~ Chris

Here's MVP Beth Melton's explanation of what has happened:

The problem you are encountering is due to your Column settings. Does your
document contain multiple columns or did it contain multiple columns at one
time?

To correct the problem you will need to go to each section (even if it is a
single column), select Format/Columns and click the appropriate number of
columns Presets. You need to verify that the "Equal Column Width" option at
the bottom is selected (even if it is disabled) prior to selecting OK.

Here is some background what is happening: The "Format Columns" command on
the toolbar does not set the "Equal Column Width" option. When you adjust
the page margins, orientation, etc., Word doesn't automatically resize the
columns to the new page width.

So by selecting the number of desired columns from the "Presets", the
"Equal Column Width" option is turned on. This is especially important if a
single column is selected because the "Equal Column Width" option is
disabled and selecting from the Presets is the only way to turn it on.

Hi There,
Just copy the whole text and paste it on another word file, may be there is some copy paste formulas included in the text.
if you will find the same issues the change the margins setting.
