Saving duplex settings in a specific document

Please excuse the crosspost - I'm not exactly sure which category applies to
my specific problem.

I have a 200 page document (Word 2000) which is printed out fairly regularly
to a networked Canon photocopier multifunction machine. For this specific
document, I want it printed in duplex every time - most of the other
documents are printed out single side only.

Is there a function somewhere to force duplex printing every time for this
specific document? I can make -every- document default to duplex, but not
selective ones.

Any help is appreciated.

Insert a {PRINT} field in the document to send the codes to the printer that
select duplex printing.

Wombat:

Create a second printer on your desktop. Configure this one to print
double-sided always.

Go to Control Panel>Printers>Add a Printer.

You connect to the same printer, you simply configure its properties to be
always double-sided.

cheers

Good idea, and one I'll probably use.

I'm still hoping to find a way to save the settings within the document
itself (Canon says that it does, but it doesn't) to make this as
non-computer-literate as possible.

Regrettably, when talking to computer companies, you need to follow the rule
"A computer company will tell you only what you ask about, nothing more."

You missed a question... "Does the document store the printer driver
setting?" The answer is "No."

So while Canon is correct that the document stores the "Name" of the default
printer, it does NOT store the printer driver settings, which can be
different for each user.

Sorry: this is a FAQ question. If there was an answer, we would have found
it years ago. Which reminds me: we bumped that off the wish-list in the
last round. Maybe it should make a re-appearance...

Cheers

Which brings me back to my previous suggestion of using a {PRINT} field in
the document to set the print parameters for duplex printing. The printer
manual will give you the necessary escape sequence. This field can be stored
in the document and/or template for that document type and sending an escape
sequence certainly works - in fact it is the way we all had to work before
Windows.

Unfortunately, Canon specifically told me that each document within word
would remember the driver settings. But we all know better than to believe
that ... :)

I remember those days well. Unfortunately, the manuals for this particular
device do not contain the information, and the nice folk in tech support
cheerfully told me that escape sequences do not exist, and they were unaware
of anybody who would tell me otherwise.

I have resigned myself to teaching the others (with the occasional gentle
reminder) that they have to remember to set the duplex setting each and
every time.... maybe once I get the new voicemail leased and installed and
can convince the local DSL people that we want to give them money so please
come out and make us go fast I can look back into the matter.

Thanks for the input

The suggestion has been made, perhaps for a slightly different situation,
but it would probably apply here, too, to Add New Printer, using the same
driver but setting the Properties such that it always prints duplex. Record
a macro of changing to that printer, and assign the macro to a toolbar
button that users can use to print given documents.
