I have a Word 2002 document that has footnotes. It skipped
from 10 to 15 when I entered a new footnote. If I try to
create a footnote between the 10th and 15th it creates
footnote 14. Also if i click on the footnot to go where
it is, it takes me to some other place having nothing to
do with the footnote. Any one have a suggestion?

this was happening to me too and the fix below worked:

Are you tracking changes in the document? If so, you'll
need to Accept All
Changes in order to see a correct renumbering of the
footnotes. If you've
removed the footnotes correctly (by deleting the
reference mark in the
document body), the footnotes should have been deleted.
When stray footnote
text remains, attempts to delete it will generate an
error message ("This is
not an appropriate action for footnotes" or the like).
But you can sometimes
use Backspace to pull the paragraph up into the previous
footnote, and then
you can delete it.
