Hey--don't worry about getting the wrong group. Actually, both your
questions are closely linked.
In Word 2000, go to the Tools > Auto Correct... menu item. A dialog will pop
up with four tabs across the top: "AutoCorrect," "AutoFormat As You Type,"
"Auto Text," and "AutoFormat." The options that you can selecting this
dialog can be useful, but can also lead to unexpected things happening in
your documents, particularly is you are not sure what's going on.
Your first thing--with "Newbury Publishing" appearing in a ToolTip is what's
called an "AutoText." Think of an AutoText entry as a way of shortcutting
long frequently used pieces of text in your document. Go to the "AutoText"
tab on the above dialog. You'll see a list of AutoTextEntries. Somewhere in
the list you'll have an entry for "Newbury Publishing." You've also probably
go the "Show AutoComplete tip for AutoText and dates" option box ticked at
the top of the dialog. This combination of settings tells Word to detect
when you start typing "Newb..." and suggest to you that you want to insert
"Newbury Publishing." You can either delete the entry for "Newbury
Publishing"--so just remove that one AutoText entry--or you can turn off the
check box at the top of the dialog--turning off AutoText completely.
The second thing, autonumbering, is an instance of "AutoFormat As You Type."
Switch to that tab in the dialog. Here you can tell Word to automatically
apply special formatting if Word thinks you want something done.
Unfortunately Word's guesses as to what you want aren't always spot on. And
personally, I'd prefer to explicitly choose when to apply a particular
formatting, and not have Word second guess me. You have probably got the
"Automatic numbered lists" box checked. Clearing this box will stop Word
automatically numbering what it thinks you want as numbered lists.
Personally, I choose to only have the "Straight quotes..." and the "symbol
characters..." options ticked--I find the others confusing. (Notice also
that the tab "AutoFormat" has startlingly similar options to the "AutoFormat
As You Type" tab--you may want to look both topics up in the Help, and make
changes to theses settings too.)
Suzanne and Dave have written a FAQ about this--have a look at
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/TameAutoFormat.htm for more info.
Hope that helps,
Cheers,
Jon

As for "Newberry Marketing," I'd guess that is your company name. User Info
is added to AutoText by default, so the "Newberry Marketing" ScreenTip is
probably an AutoComplete tip for AutoText. You can turn off AutoComplete
suggestions on the AutoText tab of Tools | AutoCorrect, but it's all or
nothing.
