I am trying to format the chapter headings and sub-
sections of my 72,000-word thesis. I cannot get the
numbers to follow the following pattern:

Chapter 1

1.1 Blah

1.1.1 Yack

Chapter 2

2.1 Blah

2.1.1 Yack

2.1.2 Garble etc ...

I have the document to the point where the second-level
headings follow the chapter numbers, but the third-level
headings number straight through the document.

How can I start over?

HELP!

Hi Grugs

Follow Shauna Kelly's instructions in
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html, making sure
you set your whole sequence up from Heading 1 as described.

Margaret,

Thank you, thank you, Oh THANK YOU!

What a wonderful sense of direction you have! Words
cannot express the extent of my gratitude ...

Now I need to learn how to include a chapter table of
contents at the beginning of each chapter ...

Any suggestions welcome, but the purpose of this reply is
to express thanks.

Your 'thank you' does it just fine <g>.

Suzanne Barnhill is the expert this time. See
