I'm trying to use automatic numbering to list some
business issues that are placed sporadically in my Word
document. When I add a new issue somewhere within the
document, I want it to be automatically numbered, and I
want the issues that follow it to automatically renumber.
Doing that is successful with the Insert > Field > ListNum
option.

HOWEVER, I want to list my issues with a corresponding
workaround (i.e., with that same numbering). For example:

Issue (1)
Workaround (1)

Issue (2)
Workaround (2)

If I use the ListNum functionality with the Workaround
numbering, it increments the list, like this:

Issue (1)
Workaround (2)

Issue (3)
Workaround (4)

I want to use the same number with a given Issue and its
corresponding Workaround. I would appreciate any help!

The simplest way to do this is probably with Word's built-in Heading
styles instead of the LISTNUM field.

Using Headings 1 and 2, you do the incrementing with Heading 1, then
in Heading 2 you use 'Previous level' for the number -- not the
Heading 2 number -- so Heading 2 merely repeats the Heading 1 number.

To learn how to set up outline numbering with Heading styles go to:
