When I bold a name in a list it bolds the number as well???

1. I make a numbered list of items to do
2. I bold the title of each item in the list

The problem is that when I apply the bold setting it also applies the
bold setting to the number as well? It only does it to some of the
numbers. I have no idea how to stop it from doing this and I can not
select and unbold the number because it is part of the numbered list?

Any help would be greatly appreciate!

Display nonprinting characters by pressing the ś button on your Standard
toolbar. Then carefully select the ś (paragraph mark) at the end of the
offending numbered item and unbold it. No matter how carefully you try to
select text at the end of a paragraph to avoid including the paragraph mark,
Word "helpfully" includes it anyway; the only recourse is to go back and
undo the formatting manually.

Though, I'm not sure if I understand how the paragraph tag has anything to do
with making the number bold. What is its relationship?

It's because the paragraph mark is where the formatting for the paragraph
lives. (If that makes any sense.)

Bullets and numbering take on the paragraph formatting. Regardless of what
other formatting you may have in the paragraph, the formatting of the
paragraph mark itself rules in these cases.
