Getting Appendix Page number to show up in the TOC

Stumped in WV

Age old problem. Lots of discussion in this group dating back several years but nothing recent unless it escaped my attention.

Working with Word in Office 365.

Can't get the Appendix page numbers to show up in the TOC as A1-1, A2-1, etc.

Reading all the past suggestions, of which there are many, is confusing me and making my head spin.

Can someone simplify this task for me?

only numbers of the built-in Heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading
3, ...) can be included into page numbering.
