Generating an invoice number

Hi..

I'm designing an invoice template, and I want an invoice number to be
generated automatically. This number needs to auto-increment by 1 each time
the template is opened. Is there a straightforward way to do this in Word?

BTW, I presume you mean each time a *new document* is created from the
template - a template should only ever be opened by the template designer in
order to redesign it. It should never be opened by users.
