Is there any way around this? I've tried to set up a hidden style at the
beginning of my chapter, but I haven't been able to get it to work right. I
was hoping to change the formatting for the STYLEREF tag but haven't come
across any leads?
Any suggestions on the best approach?
TIA.

Suzanne, Thanks for the reply. The switch you describe works for the sequence
portion of the caption, but it doesn't seem to affect the section/chapter
portion of my label. I'll keep playing with it. Thanks.... Bruce
I think we mis-understood you.
The caption label simply "copies" the chapter number.
If you "Include chapter number" in caption labels, Word copies the TEXT of
the chapter number. Word doesn't actually know that it is a number: so it
can't reformat it to a different number base for you.
To have Arabic numbers in captions you must have arabic numbers on your
chapters.
If you are determined enough, you "can" fudge it ...
1) You need to put a named SEQ field in each Chapter heading with a hidden
result. {SEQ ChapNum \h}.
2) You then put the same-named SEQ field in the captions with a "closest"
switch:
{SEQ ChapNum \* ARABIC \c }--{SEQ Table \* ARABIC \s 1 }
Update all your fields and voila!
Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. I probably didn't do a very good job of asking my question. I
fiddled a bit with your suggestion, but I think I'm overlooking something. I'm in a
rush, so I cheated and made my "Heading 1" hidden with Arabic numbering. I then used
the Title style for my Roman numbered heading. My TOC headings will then be based on
Title, Heading 2, Heading 3, and so on.
When I get this project out of the way, I'll look more closely at your instructions.
Thanks for taking the time.
