Is it possible to increase the number of leading zeros in numbering style.
I need three leading zeros (Word has a style with one, but I can't figure
out how to get three.)

You could type in a leading zero in the Numbering dialog, but I suspect
you'd end up going from 099 to 0100, which presumably is not what you want!

Hi Adele,

If you use a { SEQ } field to generate the numbers, you can add the \# 000
switch to the field to get three leading zeros.

Please post any follow-up or new questions to the Newsgroups so that others
may benefit therefrom or contribute thereto.

Hope this helps,

I have the same problem: I need to number every paragraph with 4 digits.
Such as:

[0001] blah blah
[0002] blah blah
...
[0009]
[0010]

I can do this if I enter the following field at the beginning of each
paragraph:
SEQ ParaNum \# "0000" \n (\n is default)

but I would much rather have the paragraphs numbered automatically.

I see two possible ways MS could program this, but don't see that they have
actually done either:

1) In numbered lists they have included "01, 02, 03...". Why couldn't they
have just let the user specify a number format like SEQ above? Is there a
way to add a custom numbering scheme (such as "0001, 0002, 0003...")?

2) Is there a way to insert a field code (like SEQ) into either the
numbering, or into a style definition?

Perhaps the SEQ code above will help someone, but it's not enough for me.

TIA,
Michael Pierce

Hi Michael

I'm pretty sure your method is as good as it gets, but I would recommend
that you email msw...@microsoft.com.

Regards

Dave
