I have Word 2000 at home and whatever Word comes with Win97 at work.
I want to choose the hollow Word Art letters (upper left) and be able
to adjust their shape to a loose S. At work, there is a button with
an "abc" on it that brings up black "shapes" to choose from which will
change the configuration of the selected word art text..... but I
can't find anything like that on my home computer.

Why can't I find it? What should I search for? It doesn't seem
likely that Word would drop such a useful tool, so it must be hiding
somewhere.... but WHERE?

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Thanks!

First you have to insert the WordArt (choosing the pane you want from the
WordArt Gallery). Then you have to insert your text. After the WordArt is
created, when you click on it you get the WordArt toolbar, which is where
you have the WordArt Shape button. You can't choose the shape till after
you've created the WordArt object.

First ... Win97? Word does not necessarily come with any version of
Windows... and Windows is available in 95, 98, 2000, NT, ME and XP... but
not 97.

There is Office 97 -- the version of Microsoft Office that preceded Office
2000.

That being said... it sounds like your Word Art toolbar is not
displaying... if you position your cursor over a toolbar and rightclick...
from the shortcut menu that appears... click on WordArt (which likely is not
checked) to turn it on. Your ABC button is on the WordArt Toolbar.

You can also turn toolbars on/off from VIEW --> TOOLBARS....

hope that helps!

Sorry, you're right. it's Win 97, not Word 97. My WordArt toolbar is
always displayed at the bottom of my screen, but the floating toolbar
you mentioned doesn't come up... I was surprised to see it when the
person at work demonstrated what I needed to do.

IDEA! I think that I took an abc button off of my toolbar a long time
age, not knowing what it was for... YES! That's the problem. I went
to Tools | Customize and there it was, so I dragged it back onto the
WordArt toolbar.

Voila - problem solved.

Thanks for your help!

I didn't know that... thanks! I'm a self taught user and get my
knowledge in bits and pieces. I'm sorry I appear so dense at times,
but thanks for putting up with me.
