Please help me.

I need to use the symbol for mean, an x with a bar over it. I know it
should be available but i can't find it in the insert symbol menu. I have
looked through all the fonts. A friend says it is in the WP font under math
subheading but i don't seem to have that.

Are they anyother suggestions. Please help me and other master's students
who are trying to write their thesis!

You can put a bar over any letter in one of two ways. You can either combine
the overbar character (ANSI #0175) with the letter using the EQ (Equation)
field with the \o (overstrike) switch, or you can use the EQ field with the
\x (box) switch and \to switch to make a line just at the top. If you look
in Word's help under "EQ (Equation) field," you'll get all the help you need
with the syntax of these fields.

Thanks a lot! I had no idea about that equation editor and I have been
using Word for over 2 years.

To clarify, the EQ field is not the same as the Equation Editor, which you
may have discovered in Word's Help under "equations." EE (which is not, I
think, installed in a "Typical" installation) is a "lite" version of
MathType by Design Science and is capable of fulfilling most people's
wildest dreams of math and science equations (those for whom it is not
adequate can upgrade to MathType itself). It can also do some cool things
with non-math stuff such as letter matrixes or arrays. But the EQ field is
also capable of a number of neat tricks (including fractions and matrixes).
