Marilyn, note that when you select Send to > Mail Recipient from the File
menu, Word (2000 and later) displays an email toolbar at the top of your
document. This is where you put in the addresses and note that there is an
Insert File button there. It's the same one you see in Outlook, and you can
use it to add attachments. There's also an Options button. To ask for a read
receipt, click that button and check Request a delivery receipt for this
message.

In addition, even if you are not using Word as your email editor, you can
choose to send documents as attachments by checking the "Mail as attachment"
button on the General tab of Tools | Options. You then get the File | Send
To | Mail Recipient (as Attachment) menu item.
